This painting is meant to represent the joint symbolisms of life and light and death as a shadow, to commemorate how faith and determination allowed the Jewish people of Jerusalem and their Maccabee warriors to overthrow Greek persecution in the 2nd Century BC, the event now celebrated as Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.

About Andrew Blitman
Andrew Blitman is an artist and the author of 13 books, who grew up in Cooper City, Florida, and received a Masters in Marine Conservation Science and Policy from the University of Miami in May 2014. There, he blogged on Wordpress. The blog posts evolved into multiple books, including a memoir of his experiences on a 2012 Birthright trip to Israel: "Birthright 2012: A Voyage into the Heart and Soul of Israel". Beginning in June 2017, Blitman released a three-book collection of poems titled, "Wild Writers". He is both the author and the illustrator for all of them.
